Whether you’re already in good health and want to stay in shape or you’re recovering from an injury, Pilates is a fantastic way to build strength, improve flexibility and more.

What Is It?

The Pilates method is designed to help one uniformly developed their body so that they move with ease and grace. It improves one’s flexibility, strength, spinal articulation, increase range of motion of the joints and improves mental and cognitive deficits. Pilates is a style of exercise that consists of low-impact flexibility and muscular strength and endurance movements. It focuses on proper postural alignment, core strength and muscle balance.

Get to Know Our Instructor

Our Pilates instructor Susan Carlton has been teaching for more than a decade. She teaches the classical, traditional method of Pilates. Susan graduated from The Pilates Center in Boulder Colorado in 2004 and received her Masters in Pilates Rehabilitation there in 2009.

She is particularly passionate about rehabilitation as she sustained a traumatic brain injury as a result of an auto accident. She also broke her spine in a few places. “I’ve used Pilates personally as rehab from the TBI and spine injury. I then decided to transition into teaching and make it my passion.”

Susan also has experience helping others rehabilitate from abdominal surgery, hip replacement surgery, or spinal fusion surgery.

The New Client Process

You may elect to come into the practice just for Pilates. We also have chiropractic patients who have added Pilates to their care plan.
When you visit us for your first session, you will be greeted by the front desk staff. If you’re doing another treatment like laser therapy a team member will set you up with your treatment, then you would do your Pilates session. Or they would welcome you and take you back to the private Pilates room.

Susan then will greet you, and you will begin the session. If it’s your first session ever, she will do a health intake. You will be asked if you have any injuries. Susan will have a discussion with you about any health issues you have. She then will perform structural analysis, looking at your body while you’re standing. Next, Susan will analyze your posture and correct it.

Your session will begin with the fundamentals of the Pilates method. These include breathing, articulation of the spine, and uniform development. You will be working on various types of equipment.
